VXLAN - How it Works?

Virtual Extensible LAN (VXLAN) is a network virtualization technology that attempts to address the scalability problems associated with large cloud computing deployments. The IEEE 802.1Q standard, traditional VLAN has 12 bits length, which limits networks to 4094 VLANs. If you are Service Provider with many customers, that's not enough!

For example, if you configure 8 VLANs per customer and have 500 customers, 8 x 500 = 4,000 VLANs, you already reached the limit.
VXLAN Identifier space is 24 bits allow you to increases scalability up to 16 million logical networks.
